- ➤ Joy Lewis, a RCBOE security officer, was arrested for forgery and filing false documents after a property owner reported forged signatures on a Quitclaim Deed for a home on Steiner Avenue — she accepted cash and a $5,000 cashier’s check from a buyer in a fraudulent property sale that has since been removed from county records. - ➤ Authorities are searching for Jalen Thomas—a 26-year-old man described as 6-foot-1 and 180 pounds and considered armed—wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of 23-year-old Antoine Stokes at a Waffle House near the intersection of Windsor Spring and Tobacco roads on Thursday. - ➤ Criminologist Scott Bonn, who studies serial killers, will present his live show Serial Killers at Miller Theater on Nov. 6 at 7:30 p.m.—tickets go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. at the theater box office. The Augusta Chronicle
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ The Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday that the Augusta metro recorded a 4.5% unemployment rate in July—up 0.1 points from June. The local labor force dropped by 1,548 to 267,962 with 255,809 employed, and initial claims increased by 204 during the month. Augusta CEO

- ➤ On August 21, Augusta University held its first Chick-fil-A Day event at Allgood Hall on the Summerville campus where students queued to buy Chick-fil-A sandwiches, chips, cookies and Coca-Cola drinks.
