  • Jim Hudson Automotive Group presented a $50,000 check to Golden Harvest Food Bank yesterday at 2 p.m. at 3310 Commerce Dr in Augusta as part of its 14th Annual Jim Hudson 2000 fundraiser—marking the company's 14 millionth meal donation to help feed those in need.  Augusta CEO
  • Butler High School lost power Tuesday morning and service was restored by 9:05 a.m.—over 500 customers along Lumpkin Road experienced outages starting at 8:50 a.m., according to school and utility officials.  WRDW

  • A study by Blakeley Law Firm shows that Georgia ranks first in the nation for rideshare support searches with 452 per 100,000 residents — more than twice the average, which suggests many riders are not getting help with billing, safety, or lost items. CRIME NEWS

  • A 3-year-old child was fatally shot and a woman injured on New Savannah Road early Wednesday morning — Richmond County deputies responded at 1:10 a.m. and transported both victims to a local hospital where the child was pronounced dead at 2:20 a.m.  WRDW

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Georgia gas prices nudged up by one cent to $2.91 a gallon for regular unleaded and remain stable as regional prices vary; Augusta drivers pay about $2.79, one of the lowest, and AAA advises shoppers to compare prices and save fuel. This minor price increase comes as crude oil holds steady and summer travel slows.  Augusta CEO
  • Georgia Power is freezing its electric rates for the next three years + customers are advised to save energy by changing air filters, closing blinds, and turning off lights when not in use.  Augusta CEO

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Margaret "Meg" Heap was sworn in Monday at the federal courthouse in Augusta as U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Georgia after a long career in law that began in 1986. Appointed by Attorney General Pam Bondi, Heap served as district attorney and on the State Board of Pardons and Paroles—she will work with law enforcement to improve safety across 43 counties.  Augusta CEO
  • At Fort Gordon, paratroopers jumped from a plane on Tuesday during the TechNet Airborne Operation — the event brought together Army, Joint, and Special Operations units and allowed families to watch the live demonstration. The jump showed the training and readiness of the soldiers in a clear display of airborne skill.  WRDW
  • U.S. Senator Raphael Warnock visited Three Bees Farm in Keysville on August 16th to discuss tariffs—he met with farm owner James Jeb Barrow Jr.—in a talk that focused on how the tariffs affected pecan prices.  The Augusta Chronicle
