- ➤ Columbia County Parks, Recreation, and Events held its first Dancing with the Stars event for people with special needs Saturday evening to offer older teens and adults a chance to make friends and share achievements — attendees said the event helped them connect and feel supported — county officials said they plan similar events in the future. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Eric Anton was arrested Thursday night in downtown Augusta after allegedly striking multiple vehicles, fleeing from police on foot, and being tackled by a deputy — he faces charges including DUI, hit and run, and obstruction with bond set at $8,900 while his criminal record spans several counties. The Augusta Press
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Georgia Military College’s Augusta campus is still recovering from a lightning strike in July and will hold remote classes during week 1 from Aug. 11—15. The college will resume in-seat instruction on Aug. 18 and students should check their emails and Canvas regularly—the bookstore remains open for textbook pick-up. Augusta Good News
- ➤ At Warren Baptist Church on Saturday, Helms College held its summer graduation ceremony for dozens of students ready to enter careers in culinary arts, health services and related fields—two graduates earned a perfect GPA. WRDW
- ➤ High school students in the CSRA will meet recruiters from over 100 colleges and compete for $15,000 in scholarships at College Night on Sept 11 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Augusta Convention Center (admission and parking are free). The Augusta Press

- ➤ Augusta’s GreenJackets won 4 to 3 over the RiverDogs on Aug. 8 as the bullpen delivered five hitless innings with Dannelley, Keller, and Buchanan earning the win— a strong fifth inning gave the team a lead and both teams now have two wins after four games. Augusta Good News
- ➤ Shortstop John Gil hit two home runs in an 11-2 win that matched his total from his first 77 games, helping the Augusta GreenJackets beat the RiverDogs. The team will try to win the series tonight with Owen Hackman starting at (5:05 p.m.). The Augusta Press
