- ➤ Columbia County Parks, Recreation, and Events held its first Dancing with the Stars event for people with special needs Saturday evening to offer older teens and adults a chance to make friends and share achievements — attendees said the event helped them connect and feel supported — county officials said they plan similar events in the future. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Eric Anton was arrested Thursday night in downtown Augusta after allegedly striking multiple vehicles, fleeing from police on foot, and being tackled by a deputy — he faces charges including DUI, hit and run, and obstruction with bond set at $8,900 while his criminal record spans several counties. - ➤ Georgia Military College’s Augusta campus is still recovering from a lightning strike in July and will hold remote classes during week 1 from Aug. 11—15. The college will resume in-seat instruction on Aug. 18 and students should check their emails and Canvas regularly—the bookstore remains open for textbook pick-up. Augusta Good News
- ➤ At Warren Baptist Church on Saturday, Helms College held its summer graduation ceremony for dozens of students ready to enter careers in culinary arts, health services and related fields—two graduates earned a perfect GPA. WRDW
