On Father's Day, Sgt. Darrell Grooms rescued 63-year-old Glenn Wright and his 30-year-old son from drowning at a boat ramp behind Augusta Regional Airport around 12:10 p.m.—he swam to shore with help from bystanders who tossed a ratchet strap and fishing net.

Aiken County deputies are investigating the drowning death of 18-year-old Malakai Jarrett who, unable to swim, was found submerged in a home pool on the 200 block of Yaun Road in North Augusta on Wednesday—neighbors and EMS attempted CPR but he could not be revived.

The Augusta Museum of History held a Juneteenth celebration on Saturday where visitors toured the museum and joined art projects to learn about local history—local artist AC Daniel taught how to make Edgefield face pots and explained the story of Dave, an enslaved potter who risked his life to learn to write.
