The Paul Anderson Youth Home held its 32nd Annual Golf Classic on May 5 at The River Golf Club in North Augusta—sponsored by Publix Super Markets Charities—to support its residential program and on-campus school for young men facing behavioral challenges.

The tournament, which featured a full day of play from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., raised crucial funds over its 32-year history.

On Monday at 1:04 p.m., a two-vehicle crash on Peach Orchard Road in Augusta resulted in a child's death and injuries to others — a male died at 1:50 p.m. at the hospital as officials investigate the incident.

Dr. William Jefferson White Sr.—a leader who fought for civil and religious rights in Augusta—will be dedicated Thursday at Harmony Baptist Church at 930 Hopkins St. at 10 a.m. The Georgia Historical Society organized the event to honor White’s work as a carpenter, educator, minister and leader in rebuilding rights after the Civil War.

At the Augusta University Athletics awards banquet on April 30 at the Augusta Marriott Convention Center, Avery Jaynes was named male athlete of the year while volleyball’s Sophia Kruczko and distance runner Emily McBride were named female co-athlete of the year.

Jaynes led the AU men’s cross-country team to a Peach Belt Conference title and set a record in the 5,000 run — Kruczko and McBride also earned top honors for their sports in the 2024-25 season.
