🎭 Culture
Lights of the South celebrates its 20th anniversary by lighting up 100 acres with over 5 million lights; the display runs until Dec.

The Poison Peach Film Festival will run Jan.
3-4 at the Imperial Theatre and show an unfinished Civil Rights-era drama, a Freddy fan film, and a rock opera, offering a creative film weekend. Local filmmakers invite community members to join the projects.

Augusta University announced that Eric M.
Kern has been named associate vice president for Sponsored Programs & executive director of its Research Institute, effective Jan. 12. The appointment will advance research initiatives at the university.

The planning commission unanimously recommended rejecting a $40M crushed-rock quarry after over 20 local residents voiced concerns about environmental damage and increased traffic near the proposed site between Harlem and Appling.
The board of commissioners will decide on the project in January.

Red Crab, a south Augusta seafood restaurant, scored a failing 70 during inspections from Dec.
19 to 26 and was cited for several health violations (including poor employee hygiene and blocked sinks).

Laney High School's annual Wildcat Shootout basketball tournament started on Dec.
26 at Norman Bonner Gymnasium — local teams played Saturday before six more contests take place today.
Georgia football offensive coordinator Mike Bobo, a Broyles Award finalist, said his team’s improved rushing and red zone scoring were noticeable after a Sugar Bowl practice on Sunday, Dec.
