COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ SRP Federal Credit Union has launched its Random Acts of Kindness initiative by approving a $115K donation to 23 local charities that support food, youth, and healthcare in North Augusta; the funds will be distributed throughout the holiday season. WRDW
- ➤ The Augusta Fire Department hosted its second-year holiday toy pickup event where dozens of families received new gifts donated by local businesses, nonprofits & fire department members. The event spread joy and celebrated community unity. WRDW
- ➤ Project Refresh held its largest giveaway Monday at May Park by giving out 1,000 meals, toys, bikes, coats and other items to help locals this holiday season. Augusta Transit provided free rides and the monthly event will return on Jan. 30. WRDW
- ➤ The Zaccheus Miles Foundation (in Augusta) partnered with the Boys & Girls Club to distribute Christmas toys to underserved families as the holidays draw near. Founder Zaccheus Miles said he launched the effort to give back to the community that once supported his own family. WRDW
- ➤ Salvation Army of Augusta is calling on community members to help close a $50,000 gap in its Red Kettle Campaign before Christmas Eve — donations made in person or online will support local shelter services. WRDW
- ➤ Bank of America donated $30,000 to Golden Harvest Food Bank in Augusta in October, helping families facing food insecurity. The bank has also committed $250 million over five years and a $5 million immediate pledge (to support local hunger relief) as part of its long-term plan. WRDW
- ➤ Golden Harvest Food Bank partnered with Fort Gordon Christmas House for the fifth consecutive year to provide food boxes for service members at Fort Gordon. The event supported 426 military families with shelf-stable food and gifts, helping children and pets during the holiday season. WRDW
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Lucy Craft Laney Museum of Black History has released its 2026 calendar titled 'Augusta Achievers: Celebrating Augusta’s Black History: Trailblazers, Gamechangers, Luminaries, Pacesetters' (each month profiles a local figure). A calendar signing is set for Jan. 9 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the museum. WRDW

- ➤ Georgia education officials are studying Mississippi's literacy reforms as 70 percent of fourth graders struggle with reading. They plan to adopt proven methods such as hiring literacy coaches & improving science-based instruction to boost performance. WRDW

- ➤ Work on the Augusta Arena is progressing as crews pour concrete for the third and fourth levels, with the project set to finish in less than two years. Local business owners on Broad Street expect the new facility to boost foot traffic when it opens. WRDW
