- ➤ Local animal rescue groups are seeking foster families and permanent homes for shelter animals this holiday season. PAWS in Aiken and Friends of North Augusta Animals rescued dogs in dire condition — a Clear the Shelter event emptied the North Augusta shelter while teams continue to need support for new rescues. - ➤ Piedmont Augusta announced that 44 local nonprofits will share a $2M donation in 2026 under its annual giving program. The organizations span Richmond, Columbia, McDuffie and Aiken counties and will support improved community health and care access. WRDW
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Noir at the Bar features acclaimed novelists sharing 10-minute storytelling sets on Saturday, Dec. 13 at Le Chat Noir (304 8th St.) as doors open at 6 p.m. and the free event offers signed books and beverages for purchase. Augusta Good News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Augusta Tech announced the Robert Fields Annual Scholarship for construction trades during a Dec. 5 celebration attended by his family, and the award will support students facing financial challenges as it is managed by the Augusta Tech Foundation. Augusta CEO
- ➤ Augusta Technical College received a $3000 grant from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation on Dec. 10 — the funds will support nutrition education and help local neighbors access fresh food. Augusta Good News

- ➤ Laney Walker Boulevard will be closed next week between 5th Street and Peters Road for emergency repairs to let CSX Transportation install a switch at the railroad crossing + the roadway will reopen around noon on Dec. 18 after closing at 6 a.m. on Dec. 16. WRDW

- ➤ North Augusta alum Drew Stevens, the senior kicker for Iowa, accepted an invite to the 2026 Panini Senior Bowl which starts Jan. 31 at 1:30 p.m. central time – NFL scouts will assess his performance ahead of the draft. The Augusta Chronicle
- ➤ Melissa Brocato has been named interim athletic director at Augusta University effective immediately as she continues to lead Jaguar softball; she replaces Ryan Erlacher, who resigned on Dec. 8, and the university will begin searching for a permanent replacement soon. Augusta CEO
- ➤ Greenbrier High School girls flag football team—boasting a 21-3 record—will face the Jenkins Warriors in the state championship at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Dec. 15 as they chase a third straight title.
