- ➤ The Salvation Army of Augusta is bracing for higher demand for utility assistance as freezing temperatures and an ongoing government shutdown drive up heating costs. On November 15, Molina Healthcare will give away 500 turkeys at 995 Clyburn Place from 10 to 12 a.m.—Walking Tall Ministries will offer 150 free turkeys on November 15 and 22, a seniors’ Friendsgiving feast will be held at Gail Reyes Community Center on November 20, and additional events at McDuffie Woods Community Center, Augusta Dream Center, May Park, and a Feed the Community gathering on November 25 will round out the celebrations. - ➤ West Fraser Timber Co. said its Augusta mill at 2474 Doug Barnard Pkwy will permanently close by the end of 2025, which will cut lumber capacity by 140 million board feet and result in the loss of 130 jobs—company officials cited challenging lumber demand and dwindling viable residual outlets as causes.
