The James Brown Family Foundation began its turkey giveaway registration Saturday—families provided ID, a current power bill, or proof of residency—and will hold a second registration on November 15 from 9 to 11 a.m.; turkey pickup is set for November 24 at 8 a.m. at May Park.
On November 8th, many participants joined the CSRA Walk for Water at SRP Park in North Augusta and walked three miles carrying water buckets to raise funds for Water Mission—a Christian nonprofit that provides clean water to those in need.
The Salvation Army of Augusta has kicked off its annual Red Kettle Campaign—its largest fundraiser of the year—to help fund rental assistance, meals, and housing support for local neighbors.
Red kettles are set up outside stores such as Bass Pro Shops, Belk, and Hobby Lobby and will be available through Christmas Eve.
Toys for Tots has teamed up with local businesses to support a holiday toy drive amid economic challenges—partners include Ziggi’s Coffee, La Bonbonniere, Titan Restoration, Comfort Systems USA Southeast, ERA Wilder Realty, and the Harlem Museum.
Donors can drop off toys at designated locations until Dec. 18 and join the Auggie’s Holiday BUZZar toy drive at SRP Park on Dec. 13.

Georgia Power is urging local customers to change air filters, seal leaks, and set thermostats near 68 degrees as cooler weather settles in—steps that can save energy and reduce heating costs.
The company also offers rebate programs and free home improvements for those who meet income qualifications while rate freezes keep prices steady through 2028.
🎓 Education
Autumn Johnson, Director of Nursing at Keysville Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center, was named OFTC’s 2025 Alumni of the Year.
She began her career at the college in 2014 and credits its hands-on training—renowned for small-class attention—for building her leadership skills.
🌲 Environment
On Saturday Nov. 8, the Savannah Riverkeeper hosted its first Kids Day with SRK at Augusta’s scenic 5th Street Marina Patio — families gathered for a fun afternoon that featured making fish print artwork and learning about the Savannah River.
The event helped children understand the importance of the river to the local area.
🏛️ Government
Local Veterans Day events are planned next week in the CSRA—Grovetown will host its ceremony at Veterans Park on Nov.
10 at 10 a.m., downtown Augusta will hold a parade on Greene Street on Nov. 11 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.—and ceremonies in Evans and at Augusta University on Nov. 11 will feature guest speakers and refreshments.
🏈 Sports
The Augusta Rowing Club hosted the 27th annual Head of South Regatta on November 8 on the Savannah River—rowers from high schools and colleges competed from several states and about 3,000 people watched the event—bringing an estimated $813,949 in economic impact.
Six amateur golfers have qualified for the 2026 Masters at Augusta National—Michael La Sasso, Ethan Fang, Mason Howell, Jackson Herrington, Brandon Holtz, and Fifa Laopakdee—after winning key amateur events, and they will compete when the tournament begins in April.
Georgia football beat Mississippi State 41-21 in Starkville on Saturday—with the Bulldogs gaining 567 yards and making big plays, coach Kirby Smart called the win a total team effort.
They will next play Texas at 7:30 p.m. on November 15 in Athens.
Madison Thomas led the Augusta University women’s cross-country team to a top five finish at the NCAA Division II meet at Wingate University on Nov.
8. She ran the 6-kilometer race in 22 minutes and 32.7 seconds—her teammates finished in 28th, 34th, 40th, and 50th spots.
