- ➤ Registration for the James Brown Turkey Giveaway starts this Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. at May Park where residents in need must show identification and a current power bill or proof of residence; a second registration option is available on November 15, and turkey pickup is set for November 24 at 8 a.m. WRDW
- ➤ ACTS of Aiken launched an emergency food bank — designed to help local residents facing food insecurity amid SNAP delays — to serve the CSRA during the potential government shutdown. The program — already scheduled with three weeks of appointments and supported by donations — will continue as long as the shutdown lasts. WRDW

- ➤ A Grovetown Middle School student was found with a knife on campus Monday—school officials confirmed the student passed the blade to three others and the weapon was confiscated while administrators said no threat was made and the students will face discipline. WRDW
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Augusta Technical College Foundation said that proceeds from the Den of Distinction Celebration on October 24 supported scholarships and direct student aid for 10 students. New scholarships were created by honored alumni including Dr. Tamara Y. Johnson Simmons, Peter Claus, Dr. Vicki Vandervelde and Dr. Lushunda Hurst with her husband—efforts intended to ease tuition and fees and promote student success. Augusta CEO
- ➤ Joanne Sexton, the founding dean of Augusta University’s School of Computer and Cyber Sciences, passed away recently in Horseshoe Bay, Texas—her groundbreaking work in cybersecurity education built key programs that shaped the future of local cyber defense. - ➤ Mayor Garnett L. Johnson announced Monday the partial reopening of a section of the Augusta Canal towpath—officials say this step will help restore access to the historic canal for community use. WRDW
- ➤ The Augusta Salvation Army is providing diverse services to support residents affected by the government shutdown. The group has maintained its work—offering essential help—and will continue assisting locals as the shutdown persists. WRDW
- ➤ If you lend your car to a friend, a police officer will give a ticket to the driver during a stop; however, a red-light camera violation makes you the owner responsible—Georgia law makes the registered owner liable for up to $70 in fines unless you can prove you were not driving.
