- ➤ The Salvation Army of Augusta has opened volunteer registration for its annual Red Kettle Campaign that helps fund rent assistance, daily meals and shelter for local families. - ➤ Community and faith leaders met Friday at Williams Memorial CME Church on 15th Street—developing programs to fight youth violence and random crime. Parents, students and local nonprofits gathered to share experiences and plan steps to improve community safety. WRDW
- ➤ Golden Harvest has partnered with DoorDash — United Way to launch Project Dash, a program that delivers food, hygiene products and other essentials to people who live within 10 miles of a storefront in Richmond, Columbia, Burke, McDuffie and Jefferson counties. - ➤ Pinnacle Financial Partners and Synovus Financial Corp. have named local market and specialty banking leaders in Georgia to strengthen local decision-making as they work toward a full merger. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Meta said that it disables over a billion fake Facebook and Instagram accounts every few months—most are blocked before going live though some scammers still send friend requests or join groups. Scammers use the Digital Creator label to seem credible while hiding a lack of personal details. WRDW
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Augusta Choral Society will launch its 75th season on Oct. 25 at Saint Paul’s Church with three large concerts and two smaller community outreach shows—reflecting new changes after last year’s adjustments—and plans a Georgia debut of Florence Price’s 'Song of Hope.' Director Marcel Ramalho said a later holiday collaboration with the Augusta Symphony is also set to feature in the season. Augusta Good News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Georgia deer firearms season begins today for hunters using centerfire or .22-caliber guns and lasts until Jan. 11 in most counties. In some counties the season extends to Jan. 15 — hunters must have a hunting, big game, and deer license and report deer taken on Georgia Game Check within 24 hours. The Augusta Chronicle

- ➤ The Church of Our Savior has scheduled the demolition of Stuart Hall—formerly known as Cedar Grove—a historic two-story Italianate home built in 1855 behind its Columbia Road campus. The house has struggled with structural and mold issues and will be torn down unless a preservation plan is found. Augusta Good News
- ➤ Connect Development sent in a proposal in late August to change the zoning of four acres near Hillcrest Memorial Park for 28 townhomes—which have two to three bedrooms—that will include a playground, a small gravesite with six to eight headstones, and green space along Richmond Hill and Bungalow roads. The rezoning process will take 30 to 60 days and is expected to offer affordable housing for Augusta residents. WRDW

- ➤ Westside football beat Harlem 14-7 Friday, Oct 17—its first win against the Bulldogs since 2012—as Tamari Curry made a game-sealing interception and Joshua Crawford scored a key touchdown.
