  • An 11-year-old student at Harlem Middle School in Augusta died by suicide after being bullied, echoing the painful loss of 13-year-old Fabiana a year ago. Fabiana’s mom started Fabiana’s Duck Squad—using duck imagery to build a support group so that kids can talk about bullying and feel less alone.  WRDW
  • Community members with Indivisible CSRA in Augusta will join hundreds of events nationwide to protest high health care costs—calling for lower prices and real policy change.  WRDW
  • Golden Harvest Food Bank has launched its 33rd annual It's Spooky To Be Hungry food drive, which runs through October to raise funds for one million meals. Local schools, churches and neighborhoods host events and volunteers will canvas neighborhoods today with flyers featuring QR codes—key dates include a food drop-off on Oct. 25 and a celebration on Nov. 18.  Augusta Good News
  • Salvation Army of Augusta will open Angel Tree online applications on October 6 at 9 a.m. for families with children in need. In Aiken, the program closes on Sunday (applicants must have required IDs, birth certificates, income proofs, and residence documents).  WRDW

  • Dr. Kendricks D. Hooker was named president of Augusta Technical College—following the departure of Dr. Jermaine Whirl months ago.  WRDW

HEALTH NEWS

  • On Sept 29, a Riverside second grader noticed her mom’s heart attack symptoms after a shower and quickly called 911—her actions saved her mother’s life. She was honored on Oct 3 at school, and her mom is now resting and expected to make a full recovery.  Augusta Good News
  • Richmond County is planning a new sickle cell program that will help patients manage the disease amid debates over Medicaid and ACA support. Local officials say the program will soon launch—aiming to boost treatment options and improve health care services in the area.  WRDW

  • Augusta rallied from two sets down at Horne Arena on Oct. 3 to beat Lander in a five—set match, finishing with a 15 to 7 win in the deciding frame. The Jaguars will play at home today in a conference matchup against Flagler.  The Bell Ringer
