  • The Garden City Rescue Mission has changed its name to the Garden City Gospel Mission—an update that reflects its ongoing work in Augusta by providing shelter, showers, meals and clothing on Fenwick Street while planning to expand its outreach.  WRDW
  • Augusta Greek Festival returns to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church (953 Telfair Street) with gyros, Greek fries, baklava, music and dancing, and it runs through Oct. 5.  WRDW

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Augusta area residents experienced Xfinity Internet outages on Thursday — each cluster affecting at least 2,000 customers — and the company is investigating the network damage that caused the disruptions.  The Augusta Chronicle
  • Today the Augusta Metro Chamber of Commerce is hosting the 2025 Leadership Augusta Executive Forum from October 1–4 to help new chief executives and their guests learn about local opportunities and challenges in business, government, and nonprofit work. CULTURE NEWS

  • The Harry Jacobs Chamber Music Society will kick off its 35th season on Monday, Oct. 6th at 7 p.m. at the Grover C. Maxwell Performing Arts Theatre — its Augusta premiere featuring the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields Chamber Ensemble. The season continues with a performance by Imani Winds on Nov. 23rd and will end with Rodney Marsalis Philadelphia Big Brass on April 19th — honoring founder Jacobs.  Augusta Good News
  • Augusta will host the returning Greek Festival—featuring Greek food, music, and cultural traditions—that is expected to attract local residents and visitors.  WRDW

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Parents and families gathered outside Harlem Middle School to protest bullying and demand stronger mental health support after 11-year-old Aiden Lee died — local advocates warned that the school’s one-session annual prevention program has not kept pace with rising youth tragedies.  WRDW
  • Dr. Kendricks D. Hooker was named the new president of Augusta Technical College and will assume his role on January 2, 2026—he previously served as provost at Cabarrus College of Health Sciences. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • NOAA data shows that most Georgia cities will see their first frost between November 7 and 16 this year — Augusta normally experiences its first frost by November 8. Historical records note frost in Augusta as early as October 10 and as late as December 20.  The Augusta Chronicle
