  • Registration for the Salvation Army's Angel Tree program is now open — it helps local children experience Christmas when family resources are limited.  WRDW
  • Two Bank of America Augusta-Aiken employees, Ora Parish and Marissa Smith, were honored with the President’s Volunteer Service Award for their community service in 2024—Parish earned the Bronze Award for over 200 volunteer hours and Smith received the Silver Award for over 250 volunteer hours.  Augusta Good News
  • News 12’s First Alert Weather Team completed its 'Three Degree Guarantee' challenge in August, and Tub Doctor donated $50 each day the forecast high was within three degrees of the actual high—raising $1K for the Drew Passmore Battlewon Foundation as chief meteorologist Riley Hale presented the check.  WRDW

  • Weinberger’s Furniture & Mattress Showcase celebrated Customer Appreciation Month by donating a portion of sales on September 13 and will hold another donation day on September 26 to benefit Habitat for Humanity. CULTURE NEWS

  • Arts in the Heart festival returns downtown from Sept 19th to Sept 21st, featuring over 150 music artists, a global food village, street performers and a young artists market—its location shifts closer to the Savannah River due to the Broad Street improvement project.  WRDW

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Augusta University’s annual AU Brew-N-Que event, canceled last year due to Hurricane Helene, will take place on Oct. 17 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the D. Douglas Barnard, Jr. Amphitheatre on Summerville Campus. The Summerville Alumni Society will host a festival that offers food from Sconyers Bar-B-Que, live music from the Brandon Henson Trio, a kids zone, and a fireworks display + all proceeds supporting undergraduate scholarships.  Augusta CEO

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Downtown Augusta’s improvement projects on Broad, Greene, Fifth, Sixth and Telfair are making progress after delays from underground issues, weather and unexpected setbacks—15th to St. Sebastian reopened while Greene faces an 80-day extension and Telfair work is only half complete. City leaders will update the community on Tuesday—possibly with plans for added parking to boost walkability.  WRDW
  • Augusta's upcoming charter review meetings will bring together former city officials and community members to debate ethics and leadership—setting the stage for changes in local government policy. The sessions will highlight competing views on managing the city's future.  The Augusta Press

HEALTH NEWS

  • Health-care advocates warned Thursday that Georgia residents using the government marketplace will face significant rate increases next year — driven by federal budget cuts and the end of COVID-19 tax credits. Affected workers including retail, ride-hail, food delivery and self-employed individuals are expected to see enrollment for 2026 begin around November.  Augusta CEO
