- ➤ Augusta University and the City of Augusta held the ninth annual 9/11 remembrance ceremony on Sept. 6 at the Summerville Campus, where Lora Huff sang the national anthem and a jazz band performed patriotic music while fire department, sheriff’s office and ROTC honor guards presented colors and rang a ceremonial bell at 8:46 a.m. Proceeds from the 5K run supported the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation + honored first responders and military. - ➤ Columbia County fire crews hosted a 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at the Plaza Parking Deck on Evans Towne Center Boulevard yesterday to mark 24 years since the attacks and honor the victims. - ➤ Aiken Technical College held an open house on Sept. 10 to mark a year of service by its Knights Corner Food Pantry — which helped over 200 people with support from Golden Harvest Food Bank and grant funds. - ➤ Greenbrier High School NJROTC held its annual 9/11 ceremony Thursday to teach students about the impact of the terror attacks 24 years ago—Brigadier General Mark D. Miles with the U.S. Army and other speakers honored those who lost their lives. WRDW

- ➤ Scientists have identified a new type of bass native to the Savannah River system, now called Bartram’s Bass and marked by a bright turquoise spot on its eye—fishermen say it puts up a hard fight. - ➤ At a special meeting held today, Burke County commissioners discussed the sheriff’s request for funds to hire a lawyer so he could block approval of the 2026 budget that they said leaves his office short of funds, which are expected to run out in three days if a budget is not passed by October 1. Sheriff Alfonzo Williams did not attend the meeting but emailed his request, and commissioners criticized his extra expenditures—over $450,000 for cybersecurity and Florida trips. WRDW
