- ➤ Richmond County officials responded to a multi-vehicle crash at the intersection of Washington Road and Furys Ferry Road on Sunday afternoon (four ambulances and three fire trucks arrived) as crews worked to learn more about the incident (the area stayed closed). WRDW
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is searching for 36-year-old Javoris Trejon Reid for aggravated assault and battery that occurred on the 200 block of Boy Scout Road on Aug. 31 — he is described as 6 feet tall, weighs 160 pounds, and is seen near the 2800 block of Washington Road and the 2500 block of Center West Parkway. - ➤ A local mother said her mentally ill son, held at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center since Aug. 23, has been repeatedly attacked—including a recent assault that broke his nose and swelled his eyes—while he awaits a court decision on a mental health transfer, and officials confirm his injuries are under investigation. - ➤ A July survey of Augusta residents shows the community is split on charter changes—some favor keeping the current charter while others want revisions, with just over 1,000 counted responses out of 1,500 participants. The Augusta Press
- ➤ Candidates qualified for November municipal elections in Richmond and Columbia counties with Tanya Barnhill Turnley and Lonnie Wimberly running for Augusta Commission District 4 and contests for mayor, council, and commissioner seats in Blythe, Hephzibah, and Columbia County – after Trey Allen resigned to accept a federal role.
