CRIME NEWS

  • The Richmond County Sheriff's Office is asking the public to help locate 25-year-old Colby Javar Murphy who is wanted for questioning in connection with a rape that happened Friday on the 500 block of Blum Street near the Allen Homes.  WRDW
  • A convicted felon, Billy Math Cowart III, is on the run after he violently assaulted his wife on Wheeler Lake Road last week—leaving her injured and prompting police to warn the public to avoid contact as authorities search for him driving a white 2003 Chevrolet Silverado.  The Augusta Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • Presidential Dinner Theatre will return to Fort Gordon when three veteran performers present 'Tea for Three' at the Eisenhower Conference and Catering Center from Sept. 5-7 after Hurricane Helene damaged the original venue—Friday's performance is already sold out.  Augusta Good News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Richmond County School System held a STEAM community event on Saturday morning that allowed students to learn how classroom lessons link to local career paths—Dr. Chaundra Creekmur said the event bridges learning with job opportunities. Organizers plan to host the event again next year.  WRDW

SPORTS NEWS

  • Thomson’s Bulldogs beat the Academy of Richmond County 50—42 on Aug.29 when Zay Brinson scored five touchdowns including a game-winning two-point run with 37 seconds left. ARC added three touchdowns from Carson Hand in the second half, and Coach Michael Youngblood said he chose Brinson to ease pressure on his new snapper.  Augusta Good News
  • Georgia freshman Juan Gaston Jr. was announced as a starter at right guard against Marshall after warming up with the team on Saturday, making him the first true freshman offensive lineman to start a season opener since 2017.
