- ➤ Augusta Regional Airport announced it will add a second daily flight to Dallas/Fort Worth on October 7 and operated by American Airlines. The early 7:07 a.m. departure will join the existing 4:30 p.m. service to offer about 150 direct daily seats—providing more travel options for customers. WRDW
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Six Richmond County School System teachers were named finalists for the 2026 Teacher of the Year award when Superintendent Dr. Malinda Cobb and the Teacher of the Year planning committee made the announcement on August 15. The finalists—Audrey Crosby, Latonya Jackson, Chef Kanesha Roberts, LaShanda Mills, Kristina Istre, and Andrie McFadden—represent top educators from various schools in the district. Augusta CEO
- ➤ Savannah River National Laboratory awarded $125,000 in STEM grants to 29 teachers from Georgia and South Carolina for classroom projects—grant amounts of $2,500 or $5,000 were determined through a blind review process. - ➤ The Academy of Richmond County in Augusta is one of the nation’s oldest high schools, founded in 1783 soon after the American Revolution and known as Georgia’s oldest public high school.
