- ➤ A man was arrested early Wednesday when a 3-year-old boy was fatally shot and a 40-year-old woman injured at a home on the 1100 block of New Savannah Road — officials say 32-year-old Carl B. Gant III now faces murder, aggravated assault, and other charges. WRDW
- ➤ An Augusta woman who acted as a ghost preparer and caused $541,912 in false tax refunds was sentenced to 22 months in federal prison and ordered to repay the money—federal officials said this sentence holds her accountable for defrauding taxpayers. The Augusta Press
- ➤ The Richmond County Sheriff's Office responded to a suspicious call on the 1800 block of Lock and Dam Road early Thursday at 7:34 a.m.—investigators and the Richmond County Fire Department were on scene to investigate a report of a possible body in the river. WRDW
- ➤ A Richmond County jury found Charlie Demmons guilty this week of killing Stephon Jones — who was shot four times in a Hephzibah parking lot on Oct. 5 — and sentenced him to life without parole plus 15 years. The Augusta Press

- ➤ Augusta University’s School of Public Health is co-leading the launch of GROW—a two-year project funded with nearly $530,000 from the Foundation for Opioid Response Efforts—to help people recovering from substance use disorders gain jobs and support employers in creating recovery-friendly workplaces.
