Local homeowners in the CSRA still waited nearly a year after Hurricane Helene damaged their homes—Kim Crouch said a tree broke part of her roof and led to a $60,000 asbestos clean-up while insurer State Farm paid for only two rooms.
Sen. Josh Hawley and local contractors said some insurers use slow and unfair tactics—keeping many residents from fully repairing their homes.
🎓 Education
The Richmond County Board of Education named Dr. Malinda Cobb as superintendent of schools effective August 13 following her service as interim after Dr. Kenneth Bradshaw retired.
The board voted 6-4 after reviewing community feedback and applications from 35 candidates.
Trenton Hall— a 14-year-old student at Augusta Christian Schools—won a $2,000 Exchange gift card in the Army & Air Force Exchange Service’s You Made The Grade sweepstakes at the Fort Gordon Exchange on Aug.
12. He said he will save the gift card for a visit to the Lydia Project—which supports women during cancer treatment—and use any remaining funds for his school supplies.
🏛️ Government
The Georgia DOT said today that a federal rule letting alternative fuel vehicles drive alone in high occupancy lanes will end at 11:59 p.m. on September 29.
Starting on September 30, drivers must have at least two people in the car — a change that also affects I-85 HOT lanes — under new federal law.
