CRIME NEWS

  • Tyrossale Peak, 54, was indicted for felony murder and elder neglect after her 84-year-old mother, Lillie Mae Sapp, was found malnourished and unresponsive in filthy conditions at their Augusta home following a welfare check on Dec. 30, and her bond was set at $11,200.  The Augusta Press
  • On July 27th, deputies responded to a shooting near the 200 block of Park Street at Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Taliaferro County where a man was shot in the foot and treated before being taken to a hospital in Augusta—witnesses named Tamarcus Callaway from Thomson as the suspect who fled but later surrendered and was arrested at 9:07 p.m.  NewsChannel 6

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A construction project on Broad Street began today between 8th and 9th streets near the Augusta Common, and inside travel lanes + all parking spots will be closed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. until the work is completed in about a year. The project will add a large fountain, landscaping, shade structures + James Brown’s music for visitors, and Psychotronic Records owner Michael Weldon said the changes will disrupt traffic and parking for downtown businesses.  NewsChannel 6
  • Work on a new park in the median of Broad Street starts today downtown Augusta—lane closures will delay drivers and affect local businesses.  WRDW

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Blood Connection held its grand opening for its new blood distribution center at 3156 Perimeter Parkway, Suite 201 at 4 p.m. Monday. The center has a modern lab, blood depot, Georgia operations hub and donor room—designed to improve service for hospital partners and donors.  WRDW
