  • Rising food costs have led many Augusta locals to start container gardens at Good Earth to grow fresh produce and save money – Garden Center Manager Lacey Enevoldsen said customers now begin with seeds and starter plants while favoring local produce for its better quality. CRIME NEWS

  • The Richmond County Coroner’s Office and Sheriff’s Office responded on Monday morning after a body was found at about 6:25 a.m. on the 600 block of Crawford Avenue and are investigating the suspicious death.  WRDW
  • Two suspects—a 20-year-old who turned himself in and a 16-year-old co-defendant—were arrested for the July 10 fatal shooting of Raekwon Brinson outside a convenience store on Barton Chapel Road after deputies tracked the getaway vehicle.  The Augusta Press

  • The James Brown statue on Broad Street will be moved to the Augusta Museum of History tomorrow due to downtown construction—secured in a climate-controlled space until it returns as the centerpiece of the new James Brown Linear Park.  Augusta Good News

  • Elisa Jenks, the first recipient of the Layman Family Scholarship Endowment, credited her nursing career to hands-on experiences at Augusta University’s College of Nursing and the Costa Layman Health Fair — which helped her become a certified nurse midwife at Wellstar MCG Health. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger urged every official and political committee that took more than $570,000 from First Liberty Building and Loan to return those funds, after the company is accused of running a Ponzi scheme by misusing investor money — the SEC filed a federal suit alleging that owner Edwin Brant Frost IV misled about high returns when raising at least $140 million from about 300 investors.  The Augusta Chronicle
