🎓 Education
Local organizations are hosting free back-to-school supply drives offering free supplies, hair cuts & more for K-12 students ahead of the school year.
Events are scheduled on July 11, 18, 19, 25 & 31 at venues such as Bell Auditorium and Summerfield Park in the area.
Augusta University Career Services secured a $20,000 grant from Enterprise Mobility Foundation (its largest award) to boost student career development with new programs such as job fairs and internship consortiums.
Free school supplies, backpacks and health screenings will be provided on July 18 in Augusta and Aiken.
Local organizations plan these events to help families prepare for the new school year + ensure residents have essential school materials.
Service members at Fort Gordon and overseas will soon be able to earn college credit for military training after Augusta University and the U.S. Army Cyber Center of Excellence expanded their partnership (credit counts toward college degrees), with further program details yet to be announced.

EPA announced $14 million in grants to clean up polluted sites across Georgia, including a $1.5 million grant to the Augusta Economic Development Authority for environmental assessments (community engagement is also planned).
The awards will help prepare sites for future redevelopment.

Pediatricians advise parents to protect children from the strong summer sun by using sunscreen (SPF 30) and reapplying every two hours when outdoors, as UV rays are high this season.
The guidance is meant to help local families in the CSRA keep their kids safe.

The upscale properties, priced down to $2.43 million, include entertaining spaces and golf course access as of today.
Evans-based Cardinal Square Group, LLC has requested a variance at 4546 Washington Road to reduce the buffer zone and add parking for a proposed 10,500 sqft retail center.
The Columbia County Planning Commission will review the proposal on Aug. 6 + the plan may support current business operations.

On Tuesday night, Luis Arestigueta returned in relief on his second stint with the GreenJackets, allowing one run in 3.2 innings as Augusta defeated the Hickory Crawdads at SRP Park.
Augusta remains undefeated at home in series openers + Carter Holton will return to the mound tomorrow.
Former AU center Max Amadasun signed a pro contract with Gandia in Spain's Tercera FEB league after averaging 16.5 points and 10.8 rebounds per game at AU.
The Irish native will continue his professional career in Spain this season.
