CRIME NEWS

  • A mother in Augusta asked the community to pray after her 16-month-old son, Trae’son Dunn, died under suspicious circumstances early Tuesday at 5:15 a.m.—another child from the home was taken to Children’s Hospital and officials have not yet indicated if charges will be made.  WRDW

ECONOMY NEWS

  • On June 4th, 2025, AAA reported that Georgia's gas price average fell to $2.88 per gallon for regular unleaded—which is 3 cents lower than a week ago, 5 cents lower than a month ago and 49 cents lower than a year ago; drivers now spend about $43.20 to fill a 15-gallon tank.  Augusta CEO

EDUCATION NEWS

  • 15-year-old Zyla Lott graduated from Eastside High School in Newton County with high honors. She took college courses as early as age 9—she was accepted to every college she applied to including Kennesaw State and Augusta University—and will begin college this fall to study Software Engineering or Computer Technology.  NewsChannel 6

  • Gov. Brian Kemp announced that the Georgia Department of Revenue will start mailing one-time state tax rebates this week after the General Assembly approved the measure; taxpayers who filed timely returns for 2023 and 2024 will get up to $250 for single filers—$375 for heads of households and $500 for married couples filing jointly.  Augusta CEO
  • Deputies in Richmond County plan to reduce teen violence this summer after concerns were raised by residents+ they also confirmed a boil water advisory for customers in Pinewood Plantation Subdivision and Murphy Village, instructing them to boil water for a minute before use.  WRDW

  • Dr. Betty S. Pace created a new scholarship at the Medical College of Georgia to help medical students, especially those from tough backgrounds.   • Georgia lawmakers recently heard expert testimony that a lack of cancer screenings in rural areas leads to later diagnoses — causing higher treatment costs and poorer patient outcomes. Experts explained that issues such as hospital closures, low insurance coverage, and a shortage of primary care doctors intensify the challenge and suggested a more systematic screening process be adopted.  The Augusta Chronicle
