  • The United Way of the CSRA will host Book Bash 2025 — a free literacy event — on Saturday, June 7 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at The HUB for Community Innovation; the event will distribute 1,500 book bags with age-appropriate books and offer free book stations, interactive games, live story time, and Disney Princess appearances.  Augusta CEO
  • Golden Harvest Food Bank is running its second Summer Harvest Meal Program to offer food boxes of shelf-stable items, meat, and produce for families with children missing school meals—helping one in four local children face hunger.   • The Earth Pantry, a downtown zero-waste refill grocery store, will close on June 12 — owner Alexia Redman said she is refocusing on her family farm and growing family — after serving the community since opening in November 2023 and saving over 5,000 containers from landfills.  The Augusta Chronicle

CRIME NEWS

  • The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office now offers two online forms for reporting crime and drug tips anonymously—these forms are checked every weekday to help solve cases while callers are urged to dial 911 for emergencies.  NewsChannel 6
  • Investigators from the Richmond County Coroner's Office began a suspicious death investigation after a 16-month-old died inside a home on the 2200 block of Ward Avenue Tuesday morning at 5:15 a.m.—an autopsy is scheduled and a second child was transported to the Children's Hospital with an unknown condition.  WRDW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Augusta commissioners voted Tuesday to keep James Brown’s name on the rebuilt downtown arena despite plans to sell naming rights. The decision came after officials learned that his family gifted the naming rights free of charge & the commissioners asked a city attorney to draft a letter supporting the change.  WRDW
  • North Augusta leaders voted to hire an engineering firm to redesign Georgia Avenue to slow traffic and improve pedestrian safety—shifting the focus from cars to people. The new plan removes the roundabout due to limited funds and calls for narrower lanes and parallel parking, with construction set to start next summer and finish by 2028.  WRDW
  • Georgia will send one-time state income tax refunds to eligible taxpayers by mail this week as Gov. Brian Kemp announced Monday. Refunds will be up to $250 for single filers, $375 for heads of households and $500 for married filers.  The Augusta Chronicle
