  • Compass For Hope received its second laundry trailer from Piedmont Health on Sunday—doubling its laundry capacity from eight to 16 loads to help extend clothing life for the homeless. Executive Director Mike Garrison said the new trailer may also attract more people to the program.  NewsChannel 6
  • Compass For Hope opened a new mobile laundry facility in the parking lot of the demolished James Brown Arena yesterday at 10:30 a.m. The nonprofit, which has helped people experiencing homelessness since 2018, received support from Piedmont Healthcare to offer showers, food, clothing and a second laundry facility.  WRDW

  • Cardboard Castle Games opened its new location at 3836 Washington Rd. No. 9 in West Town Shopping Center on May 31 & held a fundraising event for Downtown Soul City to support local businesses. CRIME NEWS

  • A former sergeant from the Richmond County Marshal’s Office faces felony theft and breach of oath charges after a review that began May 21 found she violated policies and was terminated + she turned herself in while the case remains under investigation by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.  The Augusta Chronicle
  • A 43-year-old man, Edward Morris, pointed a handgun at an investigator while shoplifting at Walmart on Wrightsboro Road at about 2:58 p.m., was caught at 3:03 p.m. in the AutoZone parking lot on North Leg Road, and now faces charges for aggravated assault on a peace officer & firearm offenses & shoplifting.  WRDW

  • The new hurricane season began Sunday as experts warn of more storms than usual, with NOAA predicting up to 19 named storms and 10 hurricanes; residents are still learning lessons from Hurricane Helene.
