Golden Harvest Food Bank is expanding its Summer Harvest Feeding Program to deliver 35-pound boxes with fresh produce and meats to families with children 17 and under in 13 counties—rising hunger after school ends has increased the need for these meals.

The food bank is preparing about 12,000 boxes to help meet the growing demand.

An Augusta man was arrested on Sunday for a hit-and-run that killed 23-year-old Xavion Wimberly (of Hephzibah) when he was struck while crossing Deans Bridge Road near Suz Lounge around 3 a.m. and later pronounced dead at 4:12 a.m., and the driver is charged with vehicular homicide, hit-and-run, and DUI.
