Richmond County deputies arrested the third suspect in a murder that occurred three years ago in Augusta on Friday.

Nine students from John S.

Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School were chosen for the Georgia Governor’s Honors Program, a fully funded summer program that offers academic and cultural enrichment. Nearly 100 students were nominated, 60 advanced to state review, and finalists were selected based on applications, video auditions, and in-person interviews — highlighting their exceptional talent and dedication.

Georgia Military College at Augusta held its graduation on Friday morning at First Baptist Church for the 2025 class as it celebrated 145 years; students received words of encouragement as they prepared to start new careers.

The college director and Mrs. Georgia America 2024 spoke to the graduates—reminding them to keep working hard through challenges.

Savannah River Mission Completion donated $10,000 to Paine College to fund STEM scholarships for students at the HBCU in Augusta.

Dr. Brooke Amero, a 2025 Medical College of Georgia graduate, received the John F.

Beard Award for Compassionate Care with a $40,000 prize at the MCG Hooding Ceremony on May 8. She is recognized for her work with women's health and advocacy—such as founding Period Augusta to improve access to menstrual products—and will begin her residency this summer at Wellstar Kennestone Regional Medical Center before training at Emory University.
