EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Georgia Department of Education announced a partnership with Everfi to share free online personal finance courses with school districts in April, offering lessons on budgeting, saving, and credit management (helping nearly 600 schools serve over 237,000 students). - ➤ Augusta University unveiled its new Dr. Gretchen B. Caughman Student Welcome Center today at the Health Sciences Campus to greet prospective students. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Defense Health Agency officials confirmed plans to transition Eisenhower Army Medical Center at Fort Gordon into an Ambulatory Care Center by cutting inpatient services except the Residential Treatment Facility and converting the ER to urgent care — pending congressional review. Implementation may begin as early as Sept. 1. WRDW
- ➤ On May 4, Georgia began sending state tax refunds to eligible residents (filing 2024 and 2025 returns with no outstanding tax debt), with amounts from $250 to $500 and more than $1B in refunds coming over the next few weeks. The Augusta Chronicle
- ➤ Augusta Transit improved its inbound Red Line (effective immediately) by adding three new stops along Lumpkin Road to better serve riders accessing Barneys Pharmacy. The route now includes stops at 2708 Bulldog Way, near Tasty Wings, and at 2709 Peach Orchard Road. WRDW

- ➤ Eight years after a serious birth defect and emergency NICU treatment, Bearett McLendon is now a healthy child who plays flag football and receives regular checkups. His recovery included a major surgery with Gore-Tex patches to repair his diaphragm. WRDW

- ➤ Dr. Kathleen May at the Medical College of Georgia tells residents that climate change is causing a double allergy season by overlapping tree and grass pollen today, worsening symptoms for those with allergies and asthma in Augusta.
