The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Augusta hosted its annual Burger Battle on Monday from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. outdoors at its Support Center (624 Chafee Avenue) where local restaurants competed for the title while guests sampled burgers and enjoyed live music.

A dad died a little more than a week after he was shot downtown Augusta, and police are investigating what happened (no suspect has been named).

On April 26, Columbia County deputies were shot on I-20 near Belair Road when they tried to serve a temporary protective order on an RV—one deputy was killed and another injured as authorities closed all lanes until further notice, while community leaders and state officials offered their condolences.

Three local 8th grade students advanced to the state level of the National Civics Bee after competing at Grovetown High School on April 24th—Vivienne K. won first place, Alexander L. earned second and Keely S. finished third—and they will compete in Atlanta on June 27th.

Doctors Hospital of Augusta is investing over $150 million to expand its operations in the CSRA — the expansion will include the growth of two hospital towers, a new freestanding emergency room in Evans opening this fall, and new Graduate Medical Education programs that will add more than 110 full-time jobs when completed.
