- ➤ A man and a woman are charged with aggravated assault, attempted armed robbery and possession of a firearm during a crime in a downtown Augusta shooting on Saturday—Da’Mon Cole, 28, faces an extra charge for having a firearm as a convicted felon while Destiny Reeves, 27, shares the other charges—and deputies later found a 61 year old man critically wounded by a gunshot. - ➤ The Development Authority of Columbia County is proposing to expand White Oak Park in Appling. The plan will include research and development facilities and targets data centers—cybersecurity providers and advanced tech companies. The Augusta Press

- ➤ Researchers at the Medical College of Georgia have received a two-year $275,000 grant from the National Eye Institute to study the link between HIV and retinopathy using transgenic mice—future phases will include human subjects to help prevent severe eye disease. The study aims to clarify if HIV increases the risk for common ischemic retinopathies. Augusta Good News
- ➤ Augusta University professor Lauren von Klinggraeff received a grant from the American Heart Association to study how to prevent obesity by prescribing free or low-cost after-school care for children with heart risks — she is testing interest with the Boys and Girls Club and local doctors before the idea is expanded. - ➤ Free head and neck cancer screenings will be held on April 25 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Wellstar Georgia Cancer Center—screenings will check for signs of throat, mouth, and other cancers and appointments are recommended by calling 706 721-6744 though walk-ins are accepted. Augusta Good News
- ➤ A Dairy Queen (3102 Peach Orchard Road) in Augusta scored 86 during a health inspection (April 11 to 17) by the Georgia Department of Public Health after inspectors found uncovered food stored on the floor and gnats in the kitchen.
