CRIME NEWS

  • Kenneth McCoy, 32—who allegedly accused a man of sleeping with his wife and fired one round from a .45 handgun—was arrested Saturday after a confrontation that made the victim lose control of his car and crash it into a retention pond in Columbia County.  The Augusta Press
  • On Friday at about 3:30 p.m., a Richmond County sheriff's investigator talked down an individual threatening to jump from the 5th Street Bridge in downtown Augusta with nearly three hours of patient negotiation, and the person was turned over to authorities for care—agencies including the Augusta-Richmond County Fire Department, Central EMS, North Augusta Public Safety, and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources responded.  The Augusta Chronicle

  • Augusta University senior Julianna McGahee has been chosen to represent the school at the annual University System of Georgia recognition ceremony in Atlanta—she will travel to the event in the near future.  The Augusta Press

  • Local lawmakers advanced House Bill 850 that will change the homestead exemption for Augusta homes and may offer extra benefits to property owners. The bill will face more debate before its final rules take effect.  The Augusta Press

HEALTH NEWS

  • Walkers in North Augusta raised nearly a half million dollars in the CSRA Heart Walk last Friday to fight cardiovascular disease. Teams including Savannah River Nuclear Solution and individuals such as JC Epting helped raise over $426,000 locally by March 29 — the fundraiser aims to boost efforts against heart disease.  Augusta Good News
