ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A fundraiser for the family of a two-year-old killed by a car had raised nearly $4,500 by Monday evening toward a $10,000 goal after the accident occurred around 9:45 p.m. on a sidewalk at Allen Homes on Peters Road and the child was declared dead at Wellstar MCG—more than 100 donations contributed to the effort.  The Augusta Chronicle

  • Axel Adams Foundations held a scholarship gala Saturday to raise funds for students in pursuit of an education — the event aimed to support local CSRA students in continuing their studies.  WRDW
  • Fourth-year students in the AU/UGA Medical Partnership received their residency offers on Match Day at noon on Friday at George Hall—Tommy Johnston and Ashley Catanzerite matched as a couple with Wake Forest, and 70% of the Class of 2025 chose primary care and core specialties across 17 states and Washington, D.C.  Augusta CEO

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Brian Kemp signed two tax relief measures on Thursday after the Senate approved House Bill 112’s one-time rebates and House Bill 111’s tax rate cut from 5.39% to 5.19% retroactive to the start of the tax year—these bills aim to lower state income taxes for families and small businesses. The Senate also approved a bill that would let the GBI issue subpoenas in domestic terrorism cases to speed up investigations.  Augusta CEO
  • Georgia lawmakers are proposing a series of AI regulation measures that will require state agencies and local governments to publish their AI use plans—one proposal also seeks to criminalize using AI to create child pornography. Another measure would limit how businesses collect and use personal data while giving the attorney general power to enforce new privacy rules.  The Augusta Chronicle
  • Augusta postal workers protested against privatization of USPS at the post office on Wrightsboro Road Sunday—demonstrators gathered to oppose changes in the postal system.  WRDW
