Women in Philanthropy of the Central Savannah River Area awarded over $150,000 in grants on Friday, March 20 at the Augusta Country Club as part of its support for 10 local nonprofits.
Grant amounts ranged from $5,000 to $25,000 (including support for food and diaper assistance programs).
Augusta Lions Club member Joey Johnson (living with vision loss) partners with his guide dog Tucker to navigate daily challenges while stressing that service dogs must work without distraction.

Augusta native educator Dr. Andre Mountain launched his book Pawn Takes Rook: An Urban Mosaic Pedagogy Saturday afternoon at downtown The Book Tavern to offer hip-hop based teaching strategies that connect classroom learning with students' diverse experiences (Chubb Rock wrote the foreword).

Georgia officials urge boaters and anglers to clean, drain, and dry their equipment to stop nonnative species from spreading in our waterways.
They ask residents to report any unusual plants or animals to help protect native ecosystems.

Recent food inspections in Richmond and Columbia counties show that many restaurants earned perfect or A scores, while one Augusta seafood restaurant scored 81 — its floors and walls were reported dirty.
Inspectors urged eateries to follow cleaning protocols to ensure safe service.

A development company will transform the former First Baptist Church of Evans site into a Chase Bank with a drive-thru plus up to three restaurants.
Contractors in Martinez and Alpharetta are inviting bids until April 1 at the corner of Washington and North Belair roads in Evans.

North Augusta High School celebrated SCHSL 4A state championship wins for both the girls’ and boys’ basketball teams on Sunday at Sharon Jones Amphitheater.
Hundreds of fans, parents and former players joined the event to recognize the historic dual wins.
The Masters Tournament traffic plan reroutes vehicles along River Watch Parkway, Alexander Drive, Berckmans Road & Washington Road as the south gate opens today at Augusta National Golf Club.
Officials say the new route is set to manage flow and ensure a smooth experience for visitors.
