CRIME NEWS

  • Augusta man A'kki Pauley was fatally shot while sitting in his car on Dabney Drive yesterday morning and was declared dead at 11:34 a.m. at Wellstar MCG Health + his death marked Richmond County's ninth homicide this year.  The Augusta Press
  • In January, a Georgia family alerted Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger after a scam artist posing as a cemetery representative convinced a grieving mother to pay $1,200 via PayPal using high-pressure tactics, prompting an investigation, notification of law enforcement, and confirmation from a local funeral home that such scams are common.  Augusta CEO

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Today, Malcolm Cunningham Automotive Group pledged $100,000 to support Augusta Tech’s expanded Automotive Institute — a new 65,000-square-foot facility set to offer automotive training through diploma and certificate programs, helping over 1,000 technicians build lucrative careers.  WRDW
  • The Richmond County School System announced that kindergarten registration is open for the 2025-2026 school year (details to be released).  WRDW
  • Savannah River Nuclear Solutions showed off its IT Youth Apprenticeship Program at a North Augusta Chamber event, where two students fixed a computer for 60 local attendees. The program gives high schoolers paid, on-the-job training and will help the company hire 9,000 new workers over the next five years.  Augusta CEO

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Augusta has put in place a new traffic plan for Masters Week that includes a rideshare lot, a temporary traffic signal, and an app with a QR code—drivers will see changes on Washington Road from I-20 and adjustments in signal timing to help move traffic safely. Officials said the measures build on last year’s plan to guide visitors to parking and avoid busy intersections.  The Augusta Chronicle
