EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Augusta University’s Career Services Department will host the annual Jaguar Job Fair at Christenberry Fieldhouse on March 21 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.—nearly 100 employers will offer full- and part-time positions to local students. The Bell Ringer
- ➤ Georgia Power Foundation awarded $250,000 to Augusta Tech for a new 65,000 square foot automotive training center at 1122 Walton Way that will train over 1,000 technicians each year. The center, named Jim Hudson Automotive Institute, will offer programs in combustion, electric, hybrid and diesel engine technology as well as auto body repair — boosting workforce skills in the local automotive industry. - ➤ On Tuesday, Augusta leaders provided details about a floating homestead property tax exemption at the Municipal Building on Telfair Street—this option, which comes after opting out of the state’s program, would limit annual tax increases for homeowners and may shift part of the tax burden to non-homestead properties, pending approval by the Georgia General Assembly and Richmond County voters. The proposal may also include adjusting revenue measures through a potential sales tax. WRDW

- ➤ A disaster recovery center will open Tuesday morning in Augusta to help those with business or home damage from Hurricane Helene. WRDW
- ➤ On Tuesday, Augusta leaders provided the community with information on a potential local floating homestead property tax exemption at the Augusta-Richmond County Municipal Building on Telfair Street — they had previously opted out of the state’s exemption and planned to explore a local version. - ➤ Augusta is cracking down on illegal sign postings on public property—this ban covers signs on utility poles, medians, and rights-of-way and violators risk 60 days in jail, a $1000 fine, or license suspension. - ➤ The Augusta Government is nearly finished with its residential right-of-way debris collection that began on January 21, 2025, having finished Districts 1, 2, 3, and 7 while Districts 4, 5, 6, and 8 are expected to be complete this week. Residents must not put new debris out for collection—especially on state routes since GDOT ended pick-ups on February 28, 2025—as missed areas will be reviewed through 311. City of Augusta
