- ➤ Augusta University has named Maura Conley Copeland, an experienced attorney with over 20 years in legal affairs, as its new vice president of Audit, Compliance & Ethics and Risk Management; she will begin her role on June 1. The Augusta Press
- ➤ The STAR Student Program recognized 16 high-achieving students at a ceremony at Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church in Augusta. Annie Zhang was named the top winner + her longtime teacher Sierra Mannix received recognition for her support. WRDW
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Hummingbird migration will soon bring ruby-throated visitors as most are seen from late February to mid-March and northern areas may see them in early April. Residents can attract these birds by planting red flowers or using feeders with a homemade nectar (1 part sugar to 4 parts water) and cleaning them weekly. The Augusta Chronicle

- ➤ Georgia farmers, ranchers and foresters impacted by Hurricane Helene can apply for relief under the Georgia Hurricane Helene Block Grant Program from Mar. 16 to Apr. 27. The aid covers losses in timber, dairy, infrastructure and more for those in eligible counties. WRDW
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Local restaurants had lower health scores this week because smoke breaks & soggy dishes were found during inspections; restaurant managers plan to address the issues in upcoming reviews. The Augusta Press
- ➤ The Rotary Club of Columbia County received a $5,000 subgrant to assemble Narcan kits for one-time use and will distribute them to over 118 local agencies serving vulnerable populations across the CSRA.
