- ➤ The city has leased two downtown parking lots to replace parking lost to Broad Street construction; parking is free with no time restrictions starting Monday. Parking is available at Lot A +116 James Brown Blvd+ and Lot B +865 Reynolds St+. The Augusta Press
- ➤ Tiffany Heitzman (a local community leader and mother of three) announced her candidacy for the District 2 seat on the Columbia County Board of Education; she will compete in a primary on May 19. The Augusta Press
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Shepeard Community Blood Center is teaming up with Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia to offer two free boxes of Girl Scout cookies to blood donors next week in Augusta. This first-time partnership gives a local opportunity to learn about donating blood while supporting community health. WRDW
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Butler boys’ basketball team won its second straight AA Region 4 Championship on Feb. 13 at Butler High School, led by senior Kwamane Bridges’ 23 points. State playoffs will begin on Wednesday, Feb. 25 with times and opponents to be announced. Augusta Good News
- ➤ Josey girls' basketball earned their second straight AA Region 4 Championship on Feb. 13 at Butler High School with a 51-42 win over Thomson & now will play in the AA State Playoffs starting Tuesday, Feb. 24, extending their 19-game win streak. Augusta Good News
- ➤ Augusta University Jaguars outpaced USC Aiken 80-74 Saturday afternoon at The Convocation Center, led by Elias Pálsson who scored a career-high 38 points. The team will travel to Clayton State on Feb. 18 at 7:30 p.m. & host Homecoming/Senior Day on Feb. 21 at 3:30 p.m. Augusta Good News
