- ➤ United Way of the CSRA and AmeriCorps will host a food drive in observation of MLK Day of Service to support local community members. WRDW
- ➤ A networking series (announced Jan. 13) will bring local non-profit organizations together to share ideas and solutions for community challenges in Augusta. The event will soon offer a platform for collaboration among local groups. WRDW
- ➤ News 12 has partnered with nonprofit Grant Me Hope to help older foster children find permanent homes. Teenager Halen is now featured as he searches for a loving family. WRDW
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Augusta Museum of History has launched a new exhibit named America’s 250th that journeys through local history from Native American times to modern day. The display (updated every three months) features artifacts from the Revolutionary and Civil Wars that show how the past connects to today. WRDW
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ A public meeting is set for 6 p.m. Jan. 15 at Josey High School at 1701 15th St to discuss the district's proposal to close T.W. Josey High School and Murphey Middle School and build a new college + career academy on the joint campus starting the 2026-27 school year. The Augusta Chronicle

- ➤ Augusta is hosting free mold prevention training on January 22 at the Augusta-Richmond County Public Library Headquarters (823 Telfair Street). The Augusta Fire Department and Emergency Management Agency will lead sessions on moisture control and mold assessment for residents and local businesses. City of Augusta
- ➤ A lane on Wrightsboro Road between Damascus Road and Highland Avenue closes for construction today, and officials say the closure will remain for weeks. Motorists must follow detour signs and expect delays. The Augusta Chronicle

- ➤ Happy2Help raised $18,038 for cancer research when its limited run in August 2025 nearly doubled its first campaign. Officials at Savannah River Brewing Co. revealed the updated recipe and design, with funds supporting Paceline’s work at the Georgia Cancer Center. Augusta Good News
- ➤ Piedmont Health opened its new Waynesboro clinic on Tuesday, Jan. 7 (the Piedmont Heart Institute) to give Burke County residents closer access to heart care that had previously required travel to Augusta. WRDW
- ➤ According to the United Health Foundation’s report, Georgia ranked 38th nationally in health as it faced high non-medical drug use and costly care despite low levels of excessive drinking and high-speed internet access. The report evaluated care, prevention, diet, and other factors that affect health statewide. The Augusta Chronicle
