- ➤ Augusta will host several events honoring Dr. MLK Jr. starting Jan15 at Sacred Heart Cultural Center with scholar Stacey Floyd-Thomas, followed by a tri-college celebration at Paine College on Friday, a day of service at GAP Ministries on Jan19 + a community celebration with photographer Cecil J. - ➤ Augusta’s Homeless Task Force has called on local volunteers to complete the Point-in-Time count (which determines federal housing funding) starting Thursday, Jan. 22, at various community sites until Jan. 30. Federal experts are now addressing a missed submission that could risk future federal dollars for housing programs. WRDW

- ➤ Jefferson County Library opened a traveling exhibit Monday honoring three African American writers (Alice Walker, Jean Toomer, and Raymond Andrews) from Middle Georgia. The display will be available for viewing until Feb. 12. WRDW
- ➤ A celebration of life for Augusta Players Executive and Artistic Director Scott Seidl is scheduled for Jan. 25 at 3 p.m. at Sacred Heart Cultural Center, with a follow-up gathering at the Players (712 Ellis St) where guests are asked to dress in a way that reflects warmth, love and joy. WRDW

- ➤ Maintenance crews began draining the Augusta Canal yesterday while workers prepare to repair the towpath and Lake Olmstead Trailhead Bridge, which may close for repairs over the next few weeks. The project follows cleanup efforts after Hurricane Helene and aims to improve canal conditions. WRDW

- ➤ Between Jan. 5-9, inspectors graded local business health scores; P.F. Chang’s on Wrightsboro Road received its lowest score (74) for issues like high food temperatures and expired items, while several establishments scored 100. - ➤ Paceline received an $18,038 check on Monday from Savannah River Brewing Company through Happy to Help beer sales. The donation will support cancer research at the Georgia Cancer Center ahead of Paceday 2026 on Oct. 4. WRDW
