COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Bridge Builder Communities is building a 25-home tiny home community for young adults aging out of foster care on 1100 Merry Street. The project ($5 million) will include counseling, workforce initiatives, and life skills training and is expected to complete by spring. WRDW
- ➤ Camp Tanglewood is recovering from Hurricane Helene's damage — the camp lost hundreds of trees and several cabins were affected — and rebuilding will start in January with plans to be ready for summer camp in June. Augusta Good News
- ➤ Renovations continue at a D’Antignac Street home being turned into a Veterans’ Villa (designed to house up to 10 veterans with full support services) under project leader Arlean Edwards, who expects the work to finish in the next three months and is calling for more volunteers. WRDW
- ➤ Buddhist monks resumed the final leg of their walk on Jan.6 from Tignall to Lincolnton, stopping for lunch at Bethany Independent Methodist Church before planning to cross the Savannah River Bridge into South Carolina. The Augusta Chronicle

- ➤ Black Cat Picture Show at Le Chat Noir in Augusta is celebrating its 12th year by showcasing international independent films and drawing entries from 19 countries. Film submissions are accepted until May 24 to boost the local film scene. WRDW

- ➤ Augusta Utilities will begin scheduled maintenance on seven miles of the canal from the Savannah Rapids Pavilion headgates to 13th Street starting January 11 — crews will drain the waterway for cleaning and repairs, and some trail areas will be closed as weather permits. City of Augusta
